Simi Gold, the actress who was jailed for abusing the naira notes, has offered her support to Bobrisky, the crossdresser who is battling the same case.

The social media celebrity was arrested on Wednesday night in Lagos for defacing the naira notes.

The crossdresser was arraigned on a six-count charge on Friday before the federal high court in Ikoyi, Lagos by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

While four of the charges are related to naira abuse, the remaining two counts involve alleged money laundering.

When the charge was read during the court sitting, the self-proclaimed transgender pleaded guilty to the first four counts bordering on naira abuse.

Abimbola Awogboro, the presiding judge, also struck out counts five and six which are on the money laundering allegations following the request of the EFCC’s counsel.

The crossdresser is expected to remain in the EFCC custody as the case was adjourned till April 9.

Reacting to Bobrisky’s ordeal via a post on her Instagram story, Gold shared a picture of herself and the crossdresser while encouraging her.

She accompanied the post with the caption: “Bobrisky, nothing do you my friend, you are coming out of this stronger with your head up”.

In a follow-up post, Gold also wrote: “Sending you loads of love, my sweetheart.”

Gold was arrested in February 2023 after a video of her spraying and stepping on the naira notes at a party surfaced online.

She was sentenced to six months in prison in February 2024. The court handed down the sentence with an option of a N300,000 fine.
