Ugezu J. Ugezu has kicked against the recent attempts to challenge Hilda Baci’s cooking marathon.

Last month, Baci, an Akwa-Ibom native, hit the limelight after attempting to set a Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

Baci challenged the world record of 87 hours 45 minutes previously set by Lata Tondon, an Indian chef, in 2019.

She is yet to be vetted by the GWR but some other Nigerians have been giving the cooking marathon a shot.

Among these rivals is Adeparusi, an Ekiti-based chef who commenced a 120-hour cooking marathon on June 9.

Ugezu took to Instagram to describe subsequent attempts by some Nigerian chefs as “wicked”.

The filmmaker argued they should have waited for GWR to confirm or nullify Baci’s try before attempting theirs.

“They didn’t even wait for Hilda to get a confirmation,” Ugezu said.

“They have regrouped to stage another and deny her the confirmation. How else can wickedness be defined?”

The GWR team earlier said it is looking to first assess Hilda Baci’s attempt before officially confirming the record.

Ruth Kadiri, another filmmaker, had also criticised Adeparusi for wanting to oust Baci, hot on the heels of her attempt.

“They won’t think for themselves. The moment you do it, everyone starts realizing they can do it too,” Kadiri said.
