Tacha Akide, the reality TV star, has slammed the organisers of The Headies for hosting the award ceremony twice in the United States.

The 16th Headies took place on Sunday at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

The award ceremony was also held at the same venue last year.

In a recent post on social media, Tacha said the initial move to the US was understandable given the growing popularity of Afrobeats.

She, however, argued that hosting the event back-to-back “makes no sense”.

She also made reference to the BET Awards, arguing that the organisers “would never host its award ceremony in Africa”.

“How is it that the biggest music award show in Africa is being held abroad back-to-back?” Tacha asked.

“The first time it was held in the US last year, it made sense because Afrobeats was still getting so much momentum but doing it again in the US a year later— where is the sense in that?

“Wee are the ones promoting it here in Nigeria; we are the ones voting; have you forgotten there was a time BET would not give awards to our artistes on the front stage?

“Even BET would not hold their award in Africa, so why are you taking such a prestigious indigenous award abroad?”

Tacha also argued that hosting the event abroad is a reflection of the “slave trade mentality”.
