The Ibadan-based cook shared a flier on her Instagram page to announce the attempt.

Peniel, who is assisted by another chef, however, did not state how long she plans to cook.

She also did not reveal whether she got approval from the GWR before embarking on the cooking stint.

The cooking marathon commenced at Omooke Hotels Apartments and Events Centre, Kuola area of Ibadan, Oyo state, on Thursday.

As of the time of this report, Peniel has surpassed 29 hours of cooking.

“Neat and Highly cautious. Peniel has been preparing for a long time,” she wrote in one of her posts.

The current record holder for the world’s longest cooking marathon by an individual is Hilda Baci from Akwa Ibom state.

In June, the GWR certified Baci after her 93 hours and 11 minutes cooking stint.

Peniel’s cooking attempt adds up the list of local and international chefs aiming to break Baci’s record.

In June, Damilola Adeparusi, the Ekiti-based chef, said she would cook for 150 hours to set a new record.

Adeparusi had previously completed a 120-hour cooking marathon but the attempt was not recognised by the GWR.

In July, Adeyeye Adeola, the Nigerian chef, also attempted a 150-hour cook-a-thon.

Last month, Maliha Mohammed, a Kenyan chef, announced that she had surpassed the GWR set by Baci for the longest cooking marathon.
