Organisers of the Big Brother Nigeria (BBNaija) reality TV show say housemates at the just concluded season five got over 900 million votes from their fans.

John Ugbe, chief executive officer, MultiChoice Nigeria, broke the news in his remark during the award-presentation ceremony on Wednesday.

“I know you must be very curious about the voting statistics for this season. I can tell you that this season’s voting record has shattered previous ones. This season recorded over 900 million votes. We’ll provide the details later,” he said.

Ugbe further said this year’s edition of the show also recorded over 30,000 entries for audition, out of which the 20 housemates were selected.

He said despite the earlier threats posed by the coronavirus pandemic, the show turned out to be a success because of the commitment of individuals involved.

According to him, BBNaija has continued to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country. He added that since its inception, it has provided over 10,000 jobs for Nigerians.

He commended Olamilekan ‘Laycon’ Agbeleshe, the show’s winner, and other housemates for their impressive stints at the ‘Lockdown’ house.

In 2019, Mercy Eke had emerged winner of the fourth edition of the reality show and the first female to achieve the feat – since its inception.

Ebuka Uchendu, the show’s host, had also revealed that a total of 240 million votes were recorded for the BBNaija season 4, with over 50 million votes in the final week alone.
