Odugbemi said the quality of films being listed for the award has greatly improved over the years.

He said the African movie industry has become much stronger.

Odugbemi added that the industry is generating more revenue than ever because investors have confidence in production quality.

“It has been 10 years of hosting what I consider to be the Oscars of Africa. This was a film industry that 30 years ago not many people were proud of but the audience have stuck it through,” the head judge said.

“We have gotten so much better. Our films line up very well everywhere in the world. There’s a lot of money that is coming into the ecosystem simply because investors have more confidence in the quality of productions.

“The one big thing that has sustained the award for 10 years is that people trust its integrity. We have been deliberate about knowing that the jury has no interest whatsoever beyond excellence.

“This year has been particularly interesting. Almost all the films that were nominated, in every single category, will stand fully on their own feet internationally in terms of quality, technicalities, theme, and representation.

“This year, we celebrate the first film to make N1 billion in the Box Office. All of this is because the AMVCA is demanding a certain standard that is of global level.”
