The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office says Sean Diddy Combs will not be prosecuted over a video of him allegedly assaulting Cassie Ventura, his former girlfriend.
A hotel surveillance video, dated March 5, 2016, was published by CNN.
It captured Diddy kicking, hitting, and dragging Cassie.
In the footage, Cassie is seen in a black sweater while calling an elevator in the now-closed Intercontinental Hotel in Los Angeles.
Diddy is then captured chasing the singer down the hallway in a towel.
The music mogul catches up with Cassie, strikes her, and yanks her by the hair while throwing her to the ground.
Reacting in a statement on Instagram, the district attorney’s office described the footage as disturbing and difficult to watch.
It, however, said that Diddy would not be charged with assault if the encounter occurred in 2016.
The statement said this is because the year of the attack is now beyond the timeline where a crime of assault can be prosecuted.
“We find the images extremely disturbing and difficult to watch,” it said.
“If the conduct depicted occurred in 2016, unfortunately, we would be unable to charge.
“As the conduct would have occurred beyond the timeline where a crime of assault can be prosecuted.
“As of today, law enforcement has not presented a case related to the attack depicted in the video against Mr. Combs.
“But we encourage anyone who has been a victim or witness to a crime to report it to law enforcement.”
The viral video appears to have corroborated several allegations made in a now-settled lawsuit filed by Cassie in November 2023.
In the lawsuit, the singer claimed she was trafficked, raped, and beaten by Diddy on many occasions over 10 years.
