The university had been on a two-week closure following a clash between students and its host community.

In a statement on Tuesday, Dapo Oke, TASUED’s registrar, said the decision to reopen followed an emergency meeting of the university senate.

He said the reopening comes with an extension of teaching practice for final-year students by one month.

The registrar said the date for the varsity’s matriculation ceremony has also been set for June 21.

“The university senate, at its emergency meeting held on Tuesday, June 13, 2024, considered the interim report on the ongoing investigation of the Imaweje/Student Fracas,” the registrar’s statement reads in part.

“[It] approved the reopening of the university for Thursday, June 15, 2023.

“It also reviewed the university calendar and approved the extension of teaching practice for 400-level students by one month.

“In the same vein, the matriculation ceremony for newly admitted students for the 2022/2023 academic session would take place on Wednesday, June 21, 2023.

“The first semester examinations for 100-400-level students would commence the first week in July 2023.

“E- test continues on Monday, June 19, 2023.”

To prevent reprisal attacks, TASUED had earlier evacuated its campus and shut down activities for two weeks after a clash between its students and the Imaweje axis of the varsity’s host community claimed a life.

There had been pre-existing tension in the Imaweje community over cultism allegations that often led to the arrest of some students.

Oke, while warning against violence, said there would be a zero-tolerance policy for cultism in TASUED.

“Students are hereby warned to stay clear of all forms of violence as any student found contravening any University rules and regulations would be summarily dealt with,” he said.

“They are enjoined to maintain a cordial relationship with their host communities.”
