Shakira, the Colombian singer, says she put her career “on hold” for Gerard Pique, her ex-husband.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, the ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ hitmaker opened up about her marriage to the former Barcelona star and their eventual split.

The singer said at some point in their marriage, she had to put her career “on hold” to be next to her ex-husband “so he could play football”.

Shakira, during the interview, added that she “sacrificed a lot for love”.

“For a long time I put my career on hold, to be next to Gerard, so he could play football. There was a lot of sacrifice for love,” she said.

In June 2022, the ex-footballer and Shakira announced their breakup in a joint statement.

“We regret to confirm that we are separating,” they wrote.

“We ask for privacy at this moment for the well-being of our children, who are our maximum priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect.”

They got married in 2011 but the marriage hit the rocks due to allegations of infertility.

Piqué and Shakira are the parents of Milan and Sasha.

They met on the set of her music video for ‘Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),’ which served as the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
