Patrick Dempsey, the US actor best known for his role as Dr. Derek Shepherd on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, has been named People magazine’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ for 2023.
The publication unveiled the 57-year-old actor as this year’s recipient of the coveted title in a recent feature.
Dempsey succeeds last year’s titleholder, Chris Evans, the star of Marvel’s Captain America franchise.
While reacting to the honour, the actor said “It is nice to have the recognition, and certainly my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive”.
Speaking on how his kids will respond, Dempsey told People that they are “just going to make fun of me and pick on me and figure out every reason why I should not be”.
He added that his kids keep him feeling youthful.
Born January 13, 1966, Dempsey had early success as an actor, starring in a number of films in the 1980s, including ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ and ‘Loverboy’.
He is married to Jillian Fink, a makeup artist and beauty line founder, with whom he has three children.
He has received numerous awards including the Favourite TV Drama Actor award at the People’s Choice Awards in 2015.
In 2022, Dempsey was honoured with a Disney Legend Award.
Other “sexiest man alive” recipients include ‘Black Panther’ actor Michael B Jordan, singer John Legend, ‘Ant-Man’ star Paul Rudd, Idris Elba, Brad Pitt, and Harrison Ford.
