Pascal Atuma says his movies must be on the level of ‘Hotel Rwanda’ and ‘Blood Diamond’.
The director, whose latest film, ‘Clash’, hit Netflix on May 18, spoke during a chat with TheCable Lifestyle.
He said: “We’re at that point in filmmaking where it’s either we make movies at the level of ‘Hotel Rwanda’, ‘The Last King of Scotland’, ‘Blood Diamond’ or we don’t make at all.”
The filmmaker said he has three projects already in the works to follow after his last effort.
“We have three projects cooking, all of which have the ability to hit that benchmark. I’m not willing to give it out just yet. The three projects are in preproduction,” he said.
“One will come between this year and 2022, you know we don’t do movies every year.
“We do one in two or three years to make sure we do it right, especially considering that we only target global markets. You can’t target a global market and produce a movie in two or three months. It’s not going to work.”
Shot across locations in Canada and Nigeria, ‘Clash’ enlisted a racially diverse league of actors to tell a story on the family dynamics of Africans living in the diaspora as well as the challenges and cultural conflict they grapple with.
The film involved Warren Beaty and Ola George, two Canadian producers, and starred Omoni Oboli, Brian Hooks, Merlisa Langellier, Stephanie Linus, Vivian Williams, and Atuma — who co-authored the script with George Kalu.
