Olofa Ina passed away on Thursday. He was 73 years old.

In an interview with BBC Yoruba, Modinatu said the actor had been battling an illness for a while and had received care at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital in Ile-Ife.

She said he spent three weeks in the hospital but died within 30 minutes of returning home.

“We had been taken care of him, and he was at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital in Ile-Ife,” she said.

“We were told to bring him home from the hospital on Thursday evening. It was not more than 30 minutes after we got home that he died.”

Modinatu, however, did not specify the exact cause of his death.

She described her late husband as a kind and compassionate person who had a remarkable ability to defuse any anger during disagreements.

“If it was of his kindness and compassion alone, my husband should not have died,” she added.

“If we fight, he was the one who would take my anger away from me.”

Olofa Ina retired into full-time theatre arts practice in 1980 and founded a theatre group named ‘The Olofa Ina Theatre Group’.

The group played a pioneering role in staging epical histories of Yoruba warlords from the 18th and 19th centuries.

The actor made significant contributions to various television productions, including ‘Odetedo’, ‘Lakaaye’, ‘Kogun Maja’, and ‘Ade Oba’.
