Mr Macaroni and Falz are among the entertainers leading the car procession at the #EndSARSMemorial protest at Lekki tollgate axis of Lagos state.

The pair turned up in their respective vehicles on Wednesday chanting solidarity songs while they waved the Nigerian flags to mark the occasion.

The demonstration, which is also ongoing in some states across the country, is to commemorate the shooting of unarmed protesters by operatives of the army at the Lekki tollgate last year.

In October 2020, several youths had taken to the streets to protest against police brutality and demand the proscription of the now-disbanded special anti-robbery squad (SARS).

The protest, however, took a dramatic turn when soldiers opened fire on the protesters on the night of October 20.

Mr Macaroni and Falz had earlier accused the government of attempting to sabotage events scheduled to commemorate the anniversary.

The comedian, born Debo Adebayo, had earlier announced that the drive-thru procession was to reduce cases of harassment by security operatives during the protest.

“It is impossible for us not to memorialize our fallen heroes. We will never ever forget. Innocent Nigerian citizens waved flags and sang till they were shot at, injured, and killed,” he had said on Tuesday.

“We must never forget. We’re rolling up in cars tomorrow to drive through the tollgate. We know their way, so a procession of cars is the safest option to minimize police harassment. We will stay in our vehicles throughout.

“We have rides for people that need. Each and everyone’s safety is very important so please let’s move together.”
