Yemi Oyebanji, the first lady of Ekiti state, has endorsed Damilola Adeparusi for attempting to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

On June 9, Adeparusi, a chef based in Ekiti, commenced a 120-hour cooking marathon in the state.

This came after Hilda Baci, an Akwa Ibom native, pulled off a 100-hour attempt to oust the previous record holder.

In a tweet on Sunday, Oyebanji said Adeparusi’s attempt is a show of determination and courage.

The first lady, while assuring Adeparusi of her support, said the chef is using talent to make a positive statement.

“The last 70 hours have been about Chef Dammy @dammypas, a determined Ekiti undergraduate, who is making a bold attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon,” Oyebanji wrote.

“For me, it’s her courage and determination to stand for something positive, using her God-given talent to make a statement.

“Miss Damilola Adeparusi has our love and support as she forges ahead to make this bold statement.

“I salute your courage, Chef Dammy, for your decision to run your race. Congratulations.”

Hilda Baci earlier received public commendation after her go at the GWR cooking marathon.

Baci had challenged the world record of 87 hours 45 minutes set by Lata Tondon, an Indian chef, in 2019.

Adeparusi is now looking to set a new mark, but her attempt has generated mixed reactions.

Her try comes after the GWR announced that it was reviewing Baci’s attempt to confirm if a record is indeed set.

As a result, many disapproved of Adeparusi’s move, faulting her for not waiting out the confirmation of Baci’s shot.

Baci, despite the perceived rivalry between them, praised Adeparusi for having a go at the world record.

She encouraged her to embrace the journey, learn from every experience, and continue to inspire others.
