IYABO OJO’S FACE-OFF WITH LAGOS GOVERNMENT
Last week, the Lagos state government asked Iyabo Ojo, the Nollywood actress, to pay the sum of N18,640,092.00 as her personal income tax.
In a document shared by the actress, the state claimed she had a liability of N7,376,000.00 for the year 2022 and an outstanding liability of N11,264,092 for the 2021 income year.
Ojo, however, kicked against the claim and took to social media to call out the state.
The actress also alleged that she was told her ordeal with the state government was because of her support for Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), during the last general election.
AFRONATION IS COMING TO NIGERIA
Organisers of Afro Nation have announced that the event is coming to Nigeria.
Afro Nation is an annual event celebrating Africans in the diaspora. The festival is arguably one of the biggest music concerts in the world.
In an Instagram post last week, Afro Nation said the concert will be held in Lagos and urged fans to sign up to get tickets.
DAVIDO UNDER FIRE OVER ‘NEW CAT’ COMMENT
Davido stirred up the hornet’s nest last week when he called Burna Boy one of Afrobeats’ “new cats” alongside Rema, Fireboy, Mayorkun, and Asake.
His remark elicited intense backlash, particularly from Burna Boy’s fans, who argued that the comment was an “insult” to the ‘African Giant’ crooner.
Odumodublvck, who weighed into the matter, said nobody “paved the way” for Burna Boy in the music industry.
Yung6ix also argued that he and Wizkid were the first Nigerian artistes to place Afrobeats on the global map.
On his part, Samklef claimed he and Wizkid “created the new Afrobeat sound”.
Similarly, B-Red, Davido’s cousin, recounted how Burna Boy “chased after” the OBO coroner’s car the first day they met him in Port Harcourt.
The musician also claimed a lot of the current prominent Nigerian artistes “looked up to me before they became famous”.
HARRY TAKES UK PRESS TO COURT OVER PHONE HACK, HARASSMENT
Last Tuesday, Prince Harry took the British tabloids to court over alleged “harassment and phone hacking”.
The Duke of Sussex testified in a London court against Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) becoming the most senior member of the royal family to be cross-examined since the 1890s.
Harry sued the MGN for damages, claiming its journalists opted for unethical methods to obtain information, as well as using private investigators and phone-hacking tactics.
In his witness statement, the royal also claimed tabloids gained unauthorised access to his voicemail and used “unlawful methods to get stories”.
The 38-year-old said the leaked voicemails created a distorted version of him and his life to the public.
He also claimed some of the “unlawfully released information” had affected his relationship with Meghan Markle, his wife.
CHEF DAMILOLA ADEPARUSI ATTEMPTS 120-HOUR COOKING RECORD
Last week, Damilola Adeparusi, a Nigerian chef, began a 120-hour cooking marathon in Ekiti to break Hilda Baci’s attempt of 100 hours.
Adeparusi commenced her cook-a-thon on June 9. As of the time of this report, Adeparusi has reportedly cooked for 78 hours.
Adeparusi’s cooking marathon comes weeks after the Guinness World Records (GWR) said it would first assess Baci’s attempt before officially confirming the record.
The cooking marathon has continued to attract mixed reactions on social media.
Amid the the heated reactions, Baci declared support for Adeparusi and described her attempt as “a show of courage”.
BURNA BOY GIFTS THIERRY HENRY CUSTOMISED DIAMOND CHAIN
Burna Boy gifted Thierry Henry his chain after performing at the 2023 UEFA Champions League.
Thierry Henry is a French professional football coach, pundit, and former player.
He is considered one of the greatest strikers of all time and one the greatest players in Premier League history.
Manchester City won the 2023 UCL on Saturday night in Turkey after defeating Inter Milan in the final by 1-0.
Burna Boy performed just before the kick-off inside the Ataturk Stadium to entertain the audience and viewers.
After Inter Milan’s defeat, the singer got in a chat with Peter Schmeichel, Jamie Carragher, and Micah Richards.
They bantered over the game and Burna Boy gifted his diamond necklace to Thierry Henry who was also present.
SPYRO: WHY I WILL NEVER MAKE ‘UNGODLY’ SONGS
Spyro, the fast-rising Nigerian singer, said he plans to influence the music industry for God.
The singer said he is only committed to creating timeless music without explicit or inappropriate content.
The singer also stated that he will never use “shake your bum” or any kind of “ungodly/dirty” lyrics in his songs.
SINA RAMBO’S WIFE KORTH ASKS HIM FOR A ‘PEACEFUL DIVORCE’
Heidi Korth, the estranged wife of Sina ‘Rambo’ Adeleke, has asked him to grant her divorce request.
In a series of posts on Sunday, Korth said the singer should be held responsible if anything happens to her.
Korth said she does not feel compatible with the singer and wants to be free to experience the love she deserves.
Some days ago, Korth confirmed her divorce from Sina, the son of Ademola Adeleke, the Osun state governor.
The estranged lovers tied the knot in October 2021 and welcomed Lola, their daughter, in May 2022.
SHAKIRA AND LEWIS HAMILTON SPARK ROMANCE RUMOURS
Shakira Mebarak, the Colombian pop star, and Lewis Hamilton the Formula 1 driver, sparked romance rumours after being spotted together.
The rumours began to circulate after Shakira was seen at the Spanish Grand Prix on June 4, in Barcelona, rooting for the seven-time Formula 1 world champion.
On the same day, the two also had dinner with friends at El Parco restaurant to celebrate Hamilton’s second-place finish.
Footage from the outing surfaced on social media and quickly went viral.
In the photos, Lewis and Shakira are seen seated next to one another alongside their friends. The F1 driver also appears to be holding the ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ hitmaker.
Two weeks ago, Shakira was also spotted on a boat in Miami with the 38-year-old racing driver.

Actress Caroline Danjuma revealed she would love to reunite with Musa Danjuma, her ex-husband.
In a recent interview, the movie star said her divorce from her estranged husband was “a result of irreconcilable differences”.

Nonso Diobi, the actor, said he took a break from acting to acquire more knowledge and improve his skills.
“So basically, I put it this way, I always take time off to acquire more knowledge, to become something else in entertainment, and also to keep giving my fans what they want,” the actor said.
“At the moment I can officially tell you that I am a filmmaker also. Not just the regular Nonso Diobi movie star you know.”

Sophia Momodu, Davido’s first baby mama, says she intends to change their daughter Imade Adeleke’s surname to hers.
Sophia argued that she has been playing the roles of both parents, hence the need to change Imade’s surname.
Sophia, the niece to Dele Momodu, the media mogul, has been vocal about her experience as a single mother.
In May, she criticised men who use financial coercion to pressure women into staying in relationships.
She had also said she never wanted to raise a child alone.
