David Beckham, retired footballer, has been relentlessly panned for his role in fantasy movie ‘King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword’.
Asides getting to feature in the movie because of director Guy Ritchie, who is his close friend, fans say that Beckham’s acting was flat.
The reactions came about after a recent teaser clip of the classic story was released on Tuesday.
Although Beckham’s acting talent has come under heavy criticism, Ritchie says the former England captain is a “fabulous actor”.
“He was fantastic, I love old Becksy. He is a fabulous actor and a real pleasure to be with,” said Ritchie.
Speaking at the movie’s premiere in London, Beckham, who was tutored by a coach for his role, said acting is not a new career path for him.
“I haven’t taken a step into acting. It’s me doing something I love with a friend. It’s not a new career or something I want to go into,” he said.
“I’ve always liked a challenge and usually it’s to do with sport but with this I didn’t know if I was going to be OK. It was daunting but Charlie [Hunnam] was great and he gave me guidelines.
“Guy is scary as a boss but he’s a friend so you know he’s going to take care of you.”
The movie also stars Charlie Hunnam as the lead character, with Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey, Djimon Hounsou, and others in supporting roles.
