‘Who’s more popular?’ — Burna Boy, Obafemi Martins’ comparison sparks debate

A debate over who is richer and more popular between Burna Boy and Obafemi Martins, former Super Eagles forward, has ensued on Twitter.

The argument comes after Sodiq Yusuf, Nigerian rapper, had called out the ‘African Giant’ singer for allegedly disrespecting the footballer.

In a now-deleted post on Monday, CDQ had cited a confrontation between the ‘Ye’ crooner and the former Inter Milan forward, urging the singer to apologise to the soccer star.

While details of the said clash still remain sketchy, fans have jumped on another trend bordering on who is wealthier between them.

The two Nigerians have had remarkable strides in their individual fields.

Martins is considered one of Nigeria’s best strikers and remains a household name because of his appearances for a number of top-division clubs across Europe.

Burna Boy, on the other hand, is adjudged to be one of the leading musicians in the country, who has snagged strings of awards and recognition.

“Obafemi Martins is a football legend. It will be very shameful if Burna Boy belittled him because Burna is a kid to Obagoal in every thing. Burna has beefed and disrespected a lot of people including his fans since he made his fame which is wrong, this attitude will limit his growth,” a user wrote.

“There’s an unjustifiable hate Nigerians have for Burna Boy and it amazes me…when it comes to money, yes we know athletes make more, but fame? Music cut across every walk of life. You have to be on Messi Ronaldo level to be compared to major musical artistes,” another user wrote.
