A 21-year-old man identified as Michael Arigbabuwo has passed away after he allegedly mixed hard drugs for maximum effect at a birthday party in Lagos.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos police spokesperson, confirmed his death in a post via his Twitter page.

It is understood that the incident took place at the Igbogbo axis of Ikorodu on Friday.

Three of Arigbabuwo’s friends who were also present at the event were said to have been arrested.

According to the state police spokesperson, Arigbabuwo started gasping shortly after taking the drugs and was thereafter rushed to the hospital where he passed away.

Hundeyin said the police have commenced an investigation into the matter to further uncover the circumstances surrounding his death.

The state police spokesperson also called on people to stay away from drugs, adding that “nothing fruitful emanates from it”

“At a birthday party yesterday, a 21-year-old mixed two hard drugs for maximum effect. He began gasping. He was rushed to the hospital but died,” he wrote.

“Investigation has commenced. Thinking of doing drugs? Have a rethink as nothing fruitful emanates from it. #protectinglives.”

In the past year, there have been campaigns against drug abuse in the country due to its negative effect on people, particularly the youth.
