Omah Lay won the plaque for the ‘Next Rated’ artiste at The Headies 2021 which held on Sunday.

The 23-year-old musician edged Tems, Oxlade, and Bella Shmurda to win the car prize set aside for the category.

Of the different categories, the ‘Next Rated’ has been one of the most exciting, contentious, and most controversial.

But despite all these, the category has become something of a trend spotter, highlighting musical acts that did well in the previous year. As the name suggests, it also spotlights acts to achieve more milestones in the years to come.

The 2021 Headies, which celebrated outstanding achievements in the music industry, started at 8 pm on Sunday after a red carpet session that took off at 5 pm. It was hosted by Bovi, a comedian; and Nancy Isime, an actress.

Fireboy was the biggest winner with a total of four plaques after topping his rivals for the ‘Best R&B Single’, ‘Best R&B Album’, ‘Best Pop Album’, and ‘Headies Revealation’ categories.
