Grace Bolu, the wife of David Imoh, the sound engineer killed by irate motorcyclists, says her partner’s death has taken a toll on the family’s finances.

On May 12, Imoh was set ablaze by a mob near the facility where he was billed to work alongside a live band.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos governor, had condemned Imoh’s death and vowed to ensure justice is served.

In an interview with BBC Pidgin, Bolu wondered why her husband was killed after a dispute over N100 change.

The civil servant while demanding justice for her husband said life has been difficult for the family since his death, with tuition and rent waiting to be paid.

“We’ve been married for nine years. We had two kids, the first of which is five years. The second is one year and five months, yet to know his father well. I’m the wife of the man who was beaten, killed, and burned in Lekki,” she said.

“His name is Sunday David Imoh. My brothers, uncle, our pastors, and my husband’s brother got to the police station in Maroko. What they told them happened was that my husband was with two of his band colleagues.

“They boarded a bike and were to pay the biker N400. The fight started over N100 change. They turned to beat him after which they burned my husband. He’s the kind of person who helps people. He can give away his life penny.

“I first missed a call. I called him back. He said he was setting up the place they were to play in the beer palour. That was the last we spoke. Life has not been smooth since he died. He takes care of the family.

“That’s why I seek justice. As for my children’s future, I don’t know how to school them. How much do I earn to pay rent? I’m a civil servant. Once you remove food money and transportation cost, almost nothing is left of my salary.”
