The police in Abuja have denied reports claiming its officers arrested Martins Otse, the social media critic better known as VeryDarkMan.

In January, Tonto Dikeh, the actress, secured the arrest of the social media celebrity over alleged cyberbullying and cyberstalking.

VeryDarkMan was later released from police custody.

However, there were rumours on social media that some police officers in Abuja rearrested VeryDarkMan.

In a now-viral video, VeryDarkman’s legal representative claimed the social media critic was detained based on a petition earlier filed by Dikeh, actress Iyabo Ojo, and singer Samklef.

He alleged that they petitioned different policing agencies in Abuja who summoned the activist.

“As you all know I am the legal counsel to VeryDarkMan. We are doing everything to ensure his freedom,” he said.

“We all recollect that he was arrested on Friday. And the complainant against him. The faces that were made known to us were the same who earlier wrote a similar petition against him sometime last year which took us to police force headquarters in January.

“Tonto Dikeh, Iyabo Ojo, and Samklef whose petitions were thoroughly thrashed and cleared.

“But it has now come to our knowledge that because of the pain of loss they felt that time, they have written multiple petitions to different departments of the Nigeria Police Force. They wrote to the FCT police command, the gender unit of the Nigeria force.”

Cubana Chief Priest, the nightlife promoter, also registered his support for VeryDarkMan, saying his arrest “signifies a process every activist must go through”.

“It’s well, No pain no gain. One thing is for sure darkness can never overcome light. See you at the top soon Legendary. All of us great people have passed through this very process. Stand strong brother man police is our friend.”

On Tuesday, some youths also took to the streets to “demand the release of VeryDarkMan”.

But when TheCable Lifestyle reached out to Josephine Adeh, the FCT police spokesperson, to speak on the matter, she said the law enforcement agency was “unaware of VeryDarkMan’s arrest”.

“FCT police command is not responsible or aware of any of such person’s arrest,” she said.

The activist, who is very active on Instagram, has also been noticeably quiet in the past four days.
