Joeboy, the Nigerian singer, on Thursday night, thrilled the audience at the Music Society of Nigeria (MUSON) Centre in Lagos.

The Afrobeats star was featured on the first episode of the YouTube series titled ‘Up and Close’.

Joeboy entertained the attendees with some of his hit songs including ‘Contour’, ‘Surviving’, and ‘Sip’ with the orchestral choir.

He also shared the inspiration behind some of his hit tracks and how they have impacted his music career.

Joeboy further disclosed that he will be releasing an album this year.

“The new album will be out this year. However, I want to take some time to really prepare for the release. This way, when it finally drops, everything will be set up perfectly for a grand launch,” he said.

In a statement, Addy Awofisayo, YouTube head of music, Sub-Saharan Africa, said ‘Up and Close’ will give artistes opportunities to “connect with fans on a deeper level and share their latest projects”.

Born Joseph Akinwale, Joeboy gained prominence under emPawa Africa, a record label owned by Mr Eazi.

He has won several awards and recognition for his craft.

In 2019, Joeboy earned the ‘Best Artiste in African Pop’ prize at the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).

The singer also bagged the ‘Best Pop’ category at the Soundcity MVP Awards Festival in 2020.

In November 2023, he released a 5-track extended play (EP) titled ‘Body, Soul & Spirit’.

Earlier this month, he announced his exit from emPawa Africa and unveiled his music label called ‘Young Legend’.
