Tope Alabi has taken the centre stage of Nigeria’s Twitter discourse after publicly disapproving of ‘Oniduro Mi E Se’, a 2020 gospel song by Adeyinka Alaseyori.
A video of Alabi critiquing the song while on stage at an event surfaced and went viral on the microblogging platform.
“Oniduro” in Yoruba translates to “guarantor”. Alabi argued to her audience, albeit without calling the singer’s name, that her creator is more than a guarantor as against the wordings of Alaseyori’s now-popular gospel song.
“I liked that song but the day I sang it, the spirit shut me up. God is more than a guarantor. It’s not that I say the song is bad. As songs interact with the spirit, there should be communion before it manifests,” she said in Yoruba.
“If it’s the way the spirit says things that we speak, people will speak gibberish. God has given us the brain to digest, chew it well, and bring it back to life. God is more than a guarantor. It was the day I wanted to sing it that I knew.
“Those who are not the owners of the song get angry that we tell them these things. I’ve done a song before such that I had to change the wordings later. God is not a guarantor. Let’s think about these things among ourselves.”
Thank you Tope Alabi. Now I know about the song and it just speaks to the rough patch my family and myself have been passing through in over a year and how God has been our guarantor.

Alabi’s stance on the issue generated a flurry of reactions on Twitter, a lot of which were condemnatory.
“Alabi publicly condemned Yinka Alaseyori’s ‘Oniduro Mi’ song but God changed the criticism to free PR. Genesis 50:20, ‘But as for you, you meant evil against me but God meant it for good,” A Twitter user wrote.
Another Twitter user added: “To me, she spoke from a deliberate perspective with limited knowledge of the subject matter. She can as well call the person and chat up rather than an open mic.
“Whatever happens, it’s a case study for us all to learn in terms of tolerance and respect.”

God bless you. Call her and speak about it.

Yinka called her God "oniduro mi". Aunty Tope didn't like it, but instead of her to remove eyes and let God tell Yinka he is not "Oniduro". Aunty Tope now turned herself into constable of God.

Lol Holy Spirit told you not to sing Oniduro again but Holy Spirit didn’t tell you not to charge money to sing the songs he gave you.
Lol Tope Alabi should relax, jealousy don dey enter this thing.

So Holy Spirit told Tope Alabi that Oniduro Mi song is canal but didn't tell her a minstrel like her shouldn't be found with this dance steps.
She'd better be watchful and run her race till the end, if not her replacement is already hanging around her. pic.twitter.com/IwFEKfVGs1

Hebrews 7:22 says Jesus is “Guarantor” of a better covenant.
Tope Alabi calls God the weirdest Yoruba names but she now has a problem with a name actually in the Bible.
Oniduro can mean Pillar.
If God is not our Pillar, then who is?This is jealousy, pettiness and bitterness. https://t.co/yYlMl7cR6B

What Tope Alabi did in this video is total jealousy and envy . It is wrong and uncalled for. I love this song "Oniduro" and it means God is my pillar and my comforter. So what is it ? pic.twitter.com/JbQ9VJbbxX

You are so controversial Tope Alabi
I can call my God any name I like, depending on my situation. It’s my Oniduro. Stop this nonsense. pic.twitter.com/fiidpJBDdw— Product Of Grace (@babaabey) June 12, 2021
I love Tope Alabi so much but what she did is very wrong.
Yoruba people praise God with different karamo
Having “ oniduro” is a good thing, so I don’t see why God can’t be your oniduro.
She just Dey allow people mud Holy spirit now.
What she did is envy at its finest.

Tope Alabi should know better.
You can’t always hav the biggest hits. When someone else is doing great, give them their accolades or look away. Tearing down the Oniduro song was low, envious and petty.
Anyway we will now download it.

I never knew about Yinka Alaseyori’s Oniduro mi until Tope Alabi publicly condemned it.I was forced to go listen to it. I fell in love with it although I don’t understand Yoruba. Now I’ve been stuck streaming other tracks. God will change your enemies’ criticism in your Favour

The fact remains that Tope is “Lyrical” and mind you, criticizing Alaseyori isn’t the best option because you’ve failed already. Are you really sure you were encountered by the Holy spirit? Do have a rethink.
Oniduro hit has touch and transformed lives and you want to be Anti-Oniduro.
Lol…you sang a song about Yahoo, holy spirit never came again???
Where are Gospel Artiste turning Gospel songs into? Ain’t you guys discouraging new believers???
May God forgive you.
