Tobi Adegboyega, the UK-based Nigerian pastor of SPAC Nation, has called off his forthcoming birthday concert following the death of Ifeanyi, Davido’s son.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos police public relations officer, confirmed Ifeanyi’s death to TheCable Lifestyle on Tuesday.

The three-year-old boy was said to have drowned in a swimming pool at his father’s residence in the Banana Island area of Lagos State on Monday.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Adegboyega said his birthday on November 11 has been cancelled –for the first time in 18 years– in honour of Ifeanyi.

He added that the announcement was mainly to inform people who had gotten their tickets to go retrieve their money.

“For the past 18 years, everyone knows November 11 is special to me. Not just because it’s my birthday but November as a whole is a month where everyone comes together to celebrate me and this year we have even planned it bigger, people have bought tickets,” he said.

“I wanted to release a video today saying welcome to November, month of blessings and all but unfortunately all these have to be cancelled.

“This video for me is not a condolence video because I know those who are affected personally but I’m saying this because of the people that I need to reach quickly to say the plan for November 11 is hereby cancelled.

“We all have to stand in faith with the bereaved. I’m a father and I understand what it means to lose a loved one. I have been a pastor for 18 years so we’re all standing in solidarity.

“I want this video to go quickly to those who might be able to retrieve their ticket money and take their gifts back, I want them to be aware quickly.

“Also the service that we planned for November 13, already has 3,000 people registered but we would have to downsize it to about a thousand people. We are going to worship and pray, trusting God to take the couple through this difficult time.

“It’s a very hard time for us as well, we have put our all into November but it doesn’t worth a life and for this life, we all stand to pray, we’re all in a sober moment. May god strengthen the family and all the families that are mourning across the world.”
