Smith played Richard Williams in the 2021 biographical film, which detailed how he, using a 78-page plan, trained and positioned Venus and Serena to become world beaters in tennis.

The movie earned six nominations at the 94th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Smith, and Best Original Screenplay.

Speaking on the motion picture in a chat with The Daily Show on Friday, Serena said although it felt weird at first seeing Smith playing her father on screen, she’s gotten used to it.

She said whenever they meet each other now, she says, “Hey, dad” to him.

Williams added that watching the ‘Men In Black’ star fit into Richard Williams’ role “feels like I was watching my dad”.

“In the beginning, it was definitely weird. I’ve gotten so used to it now that when I see him, I just say, ‘Hey, dad’,” she said.

“He did such a great job by just becoming Richard Williams to the point where it actually feels like I was watching my dad or remembering those moments when we were together.

“Everything he did in that film is really amazing.”
