Shahida Sanusi, the daughter of the former emir of Kano, has shared a different opinion with Kiekie, the skit maker, on wives splitting house rent with their husbands.
In a recent chat with Toke Makinwa, Kiekie revealed she split her house rent with Tunji Ilori, her husband.
The online comedian, born Bukunmi Adeaga, said financial equity creates a sense of marriage equality.
Kiekie added that it helps to prevent conflict in the event of a disagreement.
The skit maker’s opinion has continued to attract disputes, with several prominent persons joining the conversation.
Sharing her opinion, Shahida, in a recent post on Instastory, said it is the husband’s responsibility to pay house rent.
She, however, added that wives have the option to offer financial assistance during periods of economic strain.
“Nope. God forbid bad things. Alhamdulillah alaa niimatul Islam. Ok, but seriously times are hard,” she wrote.
“If you have the means and your husband is trying of course chip in. But if he can afford to abeg it is his responsibility even if you have the money.”
Uche Ebere, the actress, earlier tackled the skit maker. She said adopting a mindset with a backup plan in the case of a divorce could have a negative impact on a marriage.
In the same vein, actress Peggy Ovire said she is not in support of Kiekie’s comment.
