Makinde took to X to share photos of himself and Feyi, his daughter, and some close associates at the stadium.

In the post, the governor hailed Coco Gauff and Novak Djokovic for “making history” at this year’s US Open championships.

He also made reference to the pair while speaking of the reward that comes with “hard work and clear focus”.

“We watched 19-year-old Coco Gauff and 36-year-old Novak Djokovic make history at this year’s US Open Women and Men’s Championships, Coco’s rise has been slow but steady, whilst Djokovic has remained tenacious. They both represent hard work, focus, and determination,” he wrote.

“Their wins reminded us that with hard work and a clear focus, Nigeria can achieve its full potential as we compete on the world stage. For us in Oyo State, our administration will continue to put in the work required to ensure that this happens.”

On Saturday, Gauff, the 19-year-old American tennis player, staged a remarkable comeback to beat Aryna Sabalenka, her Belarusian counterpart, in the US Open finals to secure her first Grand Slam title.
