Divine Ikubor, the Nigerian singer fondly called Rema, has refuted a claim of association with the Illuminati.

The Illuminati is believed to be a secret society that possesses hidden knowledge or exerts significant influence over world affairs.

The use of bats in a short video for  ‘Ravage’, the singer’s upcoming extended play (EP), had stirred controversy on social media, with some users claiming he has joined the secret society.

Reacting via his Instagram story, Rema said the emblem symbolizes the heritage of Benin city, his place of origin.

The Afrobeats star also attributed his success to hard work, and not to any society.

“Day 1 Ravers, help me educate the new Ravers that I have been on this bat shit for a long time. You all would have so much clarity if you easily Google where I am from, what the key colors of my heritage are, what flies in the skies of Benin every evening, etc,” he wrote.

“As I evolve, my execution will evolve unapologetically. Please know your artist. It is why I do interviews. And that Illuminati talk is trash. I work too hard to create art for you guys to give the glory to some diabolical shit. Dead it now. Jesus is King.”
