The Lebanese and two other accomplices were arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the weekend after a three-hour stand-off at his N1.8bn luxury apartment in the 33-storey Eko Atlantic Pearl Tower, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The anti-graft agency had confirmed the arrest of Mompha last week in Abuja for crimes bordering on cybercrime and fraud.

It was gathered that Mompha and Hamza belonged to an organised cyber syndicate network.

The arrest of Hamza has stirred up conversation on social media platforms especially Twitter, where users have expressed shock with respect to the cost of the rent at the luxury home where the arrest was made.

“Mompha and his collaborator should spend at least 20 years in jail, not because of the fraud, but for spending 1.8 billion naira on rent…..Mompha should spend extra 10 years for tensioning us on Instagram. Rubbish,” a user wrote.

In all of this Mompha gist, the most shocking is the fact that someone is living in a rented apartment that costs 1.8 BILLION Naira per annum. Enough money to build an Estate consisting of 60 units of 1 story duplexes in IB, Owerri, KD or any other State in Nigeria God please,” another user said.
