Once you say family planning, birth control and the image of a woman readily comes to mind.

When it comes to family planning, women use birth control pills, injections, intrauterine device (IUD) or tubal ligation.

Most men are, however, unaware that beyond using condom, they have another option in vasectomy.

What is vasectomy?

Vasectomy is a surgical procedure for male sterilisation or permanent contraception. During the procedure, the male vas deferens are cut and tied or sealed so as to prevent sperm from entering into the urethra and prevent fertilisation of eggs during sexual intercourse.

In general, vasectomy is an easier procedure and has fewer risks than tubal litigation.

It is less expensive, less invasive, heals faster, is reversible and saves the woman the risks associated with sterilisation.
