Desmond Elliot, the actor-turned-politician, has congratulated Bola Tinubu for emerging the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2023 election.

On Wednesday, the ex-Lagos governor won the APC presidential primary after he polled 1,271 votes to defeat his closest rival, Rotimi Amaechi, who scored 316 votes.

With his victory, Tinubu will battle Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alongside other candidates for the presidency.

In a series of posts via his Instagram page, Elliot hailed Tinubu over his victory.

“So… this is what you call landslide. Reason we rejoice. Join me please Jagaban ’23,” he wrote in one of the posts.

In another cryptic post, he wrote: “Congratulations!!! Jagaban ‘23. Un (on) to the next…Love and politics my peeps.. politics not talk, abuse, hate.”

Elliot recently clinched the APC ticket for a third term to represent the Surulere constituency as a lawmaker in the Lagos house of assembly.

“It is my pleasure to express my profound gratitude as I am considered worthy by every constituent, as you all supported my return to the state house of assembly as your representative,” he had written.

The actor has faced intense backlash on social media on numerous occasions since his foray into politics.

Elliot once plainly stated that “he is a product of godfatherism” — to the chagrin of several Nigerian youths on Twitter.

“A godfather always tries to look after the interest of his people. I’m a product of godfatherism but Tinubu has never for one day asked me to do something you know would be detrimental,” he had said.

“It’s progressive. So, let him (Godwin Obaseki) not castigate the whole thing. If not for godfatherism, would he be where he is today? My point isn’t even about him; it’s that I want to talk about my candidate.”
