In the now-viral video, Edochie and Kanayo O Kanayo had arrived at the venue of Elizabeth Jack Rich’s 40th birthday party and walked towards the Yoruba monarch’s table to exchange pleasantries with him.

The actors gave the traditional ruler the popular Igbo backhand handshakes which the Ooni accepted; with smiles etched on their faces.

Kanayo shared the video on Instagram with the caption: “Last night was awesome @peteedochie @babarex0 @chidimokeme and the very outstanding His Royal Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Enitan, Ooni of Ife.”

The video has triggered a wave of mixed reactions on social media platforms.

While some users argued that it was disrespectful for the actors to shake the Ooni’s hand, others blamed the monarch for accepting to exchange pleasantries with them in such a manner.

A segment of users also saw nothing wrong with the way they exchanged greetings.

“People just like wahala, it’s a public gathering and you want Pete to bow down in a place like that? Ooni self no complain, what’s the fuss about?” a user asked.

“How did you expect the Ooni to be greeted in this setting? Some of you are funny. Two mature men quickly understood the settings, their different cultures and still were able to do the greetings very respectfully and agreeably. What else should they have done?” another user asked.
