Nissi Ogulu, the singer, says she initially didn’t want to be a part of Spaceship Records, the record label owned by Burna Boy, her brother.
In a recent interview, with Chude Jideonwo, the 29-year-old singer said she, however, weighed her options and realised that building a legacy with her family is “priceless.”
“I think for me at that time, it was a good decision. You have to always weigh the pros and cons and select what you think is best for you,” she said.
“There’s no label that is perfect but having people who believe in and are ready to fully support you, understand your vision, where you’re going and draw a plan that you can align with is priceless.
“You can rest easy. You trust the people around you and at the same time, you are building a legacy.
“At some point, I didn’t want to be a part of the label, then I thought to myself why not try something different?
“You’re running away from your blood, these are the people you love the most in the world and no one else will have your back as much as your family.
“So how do we make it work in a way that can help us all shine in the way that we deserve but also help us build something together? It has never been a competition and it will never be.”
In 2015, Burna Boy founded Spaceship Records. The Grammy-winning star and Nissi are signed to the label.
The label also houses producer LeriQ and Telz. BNXN was also formerly signed to the label.
In 2020, Nissi released her EP titled ‘IGNITE’.
She followed it up with singles like ‘Hold’ in 2021; ‘Gravity’ and ‘Overthinking’ in 2022.
