Azeez Fashola, Nigerian singer better known as Naira Marley, says he would mark his 26th birthday on May 30 — a day he dubbed ‘Marlians’ Day’

The singer had opted for the day — in December 2019 — to celebrate ‘Marlians’, his fans, annually following suggestion raised by DJ Cuppy that there should be a special day for the gifted singer’s followers.

In a social media page on Monday, the singer, who clocked 26 on Sunday, appreciated friends and fans who had wished him well.

The ‘Soapy’ crooner also said he would be shelving celebration for his birthday till May 30, so as to mark the day with his numerous fans.

“Thanks for all the birthday dedede. We are going to celebrate it together on Marlians Day May,” he wrote on his Instagram.

Born on May 10, 1994, Naira Marley has etched his name on the minds of many Nigerians since he came into spotlight in 2019 with his knack for controversies.

In March, Naira Marley trumped the likes of Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid, Teni and Zlatan to become Nigeria’s most-viewed artiste on YouTube for the year 2019.

He had earlier made headlines after he was arrested and arraigned by the Lagos state government for violating the lockdown directive introduced to combat spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

The singer also left tongues wagging on social media recently when he pleaded with ladies to stop sending him nude photos, noting he was observing the Muslim fasting season.
