Azeez Fashola, Nigerian singer better known as Naira Marley, has surrendered himself to the Lagos police authorities after flouting the state’s lockdown directive.

Bala Elkana, the state’s police spokesperson, confirmed to TheCable Lifestyle that the singer is currently in the custody of the police. He added that Marley will soon be charged to court.

Marley’s detention comes hours after Funke Akindele and Abdulrasheed Bello, her husband, were sentenced to 14-day community service each.

Akindele was arrested on Sunday, for holding a house party to celebrate her husband on his birthday, a move that violated the social distance measures put in place to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

Elkana had earlier stated that efforts were ongoing to effect the arrest of others who were also seen at the party including Marley.

“Investigation is ongoing, efforts are intensified to arrest the remaining persons, among whom are Azeez Fashola a.k.a Naira Marley and Abdul Rasheed Bello a.k.a. JJC Skillz,” the PRO had said.

The police had also threatened to declare the ‘Lord of Lamba’ crooner wanted if he failed to turn himself in.

“The Commissioner of Police Lagos State Command, CP Hakeem Odumosu psc expressed his profound gratitude to Lagosians and other well-meaning Nigerians that speak up against the violations. Together we can stop the spread of COVID-19.”
