Mr Eazi took to social media on Wednesday to officially announce the song’s release.

In ‘Chop Time, No Friend’, the Banku pioneer urges people to remain focused in life while avoiding distractions.

“It is like saying, Be in the moment. Like when you are eating, you are focusing only on your food. You are eating first. It is almost selfish in a way. When it is chop time, I do not have a friend,” he tells Rolling Stone

“You know how you go to a restaurant to eat, but then you are on your phone? Or you are in such a beautiful place, but you are not taking it in?”

The song — released alongside a colourful video — is the lead track from the singer’s debut album. The 16-track project will be released on October 27, 2023.

“Chop time no friend/ If I dey chop my woman I no dey look another man face/ Chop time no friend/ If I dey chop my mulla I no dey look another man face (eh eh)/ Anything I touch dey enter/ I’m continental/ Sentimental/ I’m monumental kpere kpere,” Mr Eazi sings.

‘Chop Time, No Friend’ was produced by KillBeatz and Andre Vibez while the official video was shot by Allison Swank Owen, the US-based filmmaker.

Mr Eazi rose to stardom in the music industry after the release of ‘Holl Up’, his 2015 single.

He is also the pioneer of Banku Music, a fusion sound that he describes as a mixture of Ghana highlife and Nigerian chord progressions and patterns.

In April, the singer announced the formation of a new pan-African music group titled ‘Choplife Soundsystem’.
