Some Nigerians on X, formerly Twitter, have reacted to the arrest of Bobrisky, the crossdresser, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The social media celebrity was arrested on Wednesday night in Lagos for allegedly abusing the naira notes.

The commission said the 31-year-old was invited after a viral video of her allegedly spraying and flaunting wads of new naira notes at the premiere of ‘Ajakaju’, a movie by Eniola Ajao.

The EFCC said an investigation revealed that Bobrisky had also “committed the alleged offence at some other event centres and parties at different times”.

The agency said the social media celebrity honoured an invitation by the commission at its Lagos zonal command for interrogation and volunteered her statements.

The commission added that she would soon be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Shortly after the arrest of Bobrisky, some social media users wondered if the social media celebrity “will be locked in a male or female cell”.

While a segment of users commended the agency for identifying Bobrisky as “he”, others described the crossdresser’s arrest as “unfair”.

Dipo Awojide, the social media celebrity, also called on the EFCC to investigate other prominent Nigerians who may have abused the naira.
