The Lagos state police command recently commenced an investigation into Mohbad’s death and mentioned the possibility of exhuming his corpse.

In a letter addressed to the attorney general of the Lagos state ministry of justice, Ogun said there are reasons to believe that the cause of Mohbad’s death was “unnatural and suspicious”.

Ogun said the way Mohbad was “hurriedly buried” also “calls for suspicion and concern”.

The legal practitioner also sought that the justice department “order exhumation of his body for the Chief Medical Examiner to anatomically determine the cause of his death”.

“Immediately the news of his demise became public, there were strong reports indicating that Mohbad’s sudden demise was not natural,” the letter reads in part.

“In fact, there were videos circulating on social media where Mohbad was seen agonizing and lamenting the pains he had gone through in the hands of some individuals.

“Curiously, those found last with him before and at the point of death are unable to give any tangible explanation as to the circumstances and cause of his death.

“Clearly, there are reasons to believe that the cause of Mohbad’s death was unnatural and suspicious.

“In line with Sections 14 and 15 of the Coroner’s Systems Law of Lagos State, we hereby request for a Coroner’s Inquest to investigate and determine the cause and circumstances of Mohbad’s death.

“Importantly, we humbly request that you exercise the power under Section 17 of the Coroner’s System Law to order exhumation of his body for the Chief Medical Examiner to anatomically determine the cause of his death.”
