Operatives of the Oyo state chapter of the Western Nigeria Security Network, Amotekun, have arrested some schoolboys who allegedly identified themselves as Marlians.

Marlians is a term used to describe fans of Azeez Fashola, a controversial singer better known as Naira Marley.

In a now-viral video, some of the students are seen being forced into a van of the security outfit stationed within the compound of the yet-to-be-identified secondary school.

A voice of a woman, believed to be that of their teacher, could be heard from the background describing the arrested students as “criminals” and “bad influence on others”

“These ones are criminals in the school. The senior one is calling himself Naira Marley. Bad influence on others. They were all taken from the bush. They are being taken away by Amotekun. This will restore sanity in the school,” she said.

The development comes amid allegations of unjust harassment and extra-judicial killing against officials of the outfit.

Wole Soyinka, a nobel laureate, had warned that Amotekun should not be allowed to degenerate into the defunct special anti-robbery squad (SARS), following reports of killings involving its operatives

Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo, however, argued that some of such negative reports are false.

“For the past six weeks that the Amotekun was deployed, we have seen various reports in the news. Most of these reports are good and a few are bad. And of the bad, quite a number are false information and fake news,” he had said.
