Failatu Abdul-Rasak, the Ghanaian chef better known as Faila, has cooked for over 200 hours in her attempt to set a new Guinness World Record (GWR).
Faila announced her 120-hour cooking attempt on her social media pages on January 1.
The exercise is currently being held at the Modern City Hotel, Tamale, Ghana.
The organisers of the Guinness World Records have yet to make a statement about Faila’s attempt, which has surpassed 200 hours — as of the time of this report.
Since she started the cooking marathon, the chef has been garnering support from Ghanaians including praises from the military and the fire service.
Some Ghanaian celebrities including Asamoah Gyan and Stephen Appiah, the former Black Star footballers, visited the chef at her location.
High school students from the Tamale community also entertained Faila with dance steps.
Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, the Ghanaian chief of staff, and chief of Tamale, alongside his entourage, paid a courtesy visit to Faila.
Mahamudu Bawumia, the country’s vice-president, posted about the attempt on Facebook some days ago and also donated 30,000 Ghanaian cedis (£1,981) to the chef.
Faila aims to break the world record set by Alan Fisher, the Irish chef, who cooked for 119 hours and 57 minutes.
On November 7, the GWR certified Fisher as the record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual after he surpassed Nigerian chef Hilda Baci’s record of 93 hours and 11 minutes.
The Irish chef also claimed the longest baking marathon (individual), with a time of 47 hours 21 minutes.
