Seun Kuti, Nigeria’s Afrobeat singer, would be performing at the 2020 edition of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival alongside Egypt ’80, his late father’s band.

Organizers of the annual event, on Friday, released the full list of the global artistes billed to perform at the two weekends event as well as its headliners for the 2020 edition.

Kuti emerged as the only Nigerian on the lineup — unlike in 2019 when Burna Boy and Mr Eazi, two prominent showbiz moguls, took to the international stage alongside their global peers.

In 2019, Burna Boy had made headlines after he criticized its organizers for writing his name in small fonts — a move which put him in the global spotlight as an Afrocentric music star.

After the backlash that ensued, Burna dubbed himself an ‘African giant’, arguing that his Nigerian critics do so because they’re”not mentally advanced enough to fight for themselves.”
