Nigerian songs have dominated the top five of the latest ‘World Digital Song Sales’ chart released by Billboard.

The ‘World Digital Song Sales’ chart is a weekly record chart compiled by Nielsen SoundScan and published by Billboard magazine.

The initiative, launched in 2010, ranks the best-selling digital singles in the world music genre.

The latest chart ranks songs from January 1 and is expected to last till Saturday.

‘Ameno’ amapiano remix, the collaborative hit project by Goya Menor, the fast-rising Nigerian singer, and Nektunez, the Ghanaian artiste, topped the list.

‘Love Nwantiti’ by Ckay and the remix of ‘Essence’, Wizkid’s hit track featuring Tems and Justin Bieber, occupied the second and third spots respectively on the chart.

The remix of ‘Peru’ by Fireboy featuring Ed Sheeran, took the fourth spot on the list while ‘Ya Budu Ebat’ by Moreart completed the top five.

Billboard had introduced the initiative as one of its 21 genre-specific song charts.

The development further stretches the impressive strides of Nigerian artistes across the global music landscape.

In 2021, Wizkid and Burna Boy had won their first-ever Grammy award each while the likes of Davido, Tiwa Savage among others also achieved a stellar year.

The Nigerian music industry has also witnessed the rise of several artistes such as Tems, Buju, Ruger, and Ayra Starr who are currently pulling the strings.
