‘The Book of Clarence’ is a classic Hollywood Bible epic dramedy set in A.D. 33. It tells the tale of a downtrodden man named Clarence who attempts to clear his debts and gain glory by running a scheme that finds him pretending to be the new messiah.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the story, Samuel said he did not do much from the actual Bible stories.

The filmmaker said as a black man, he grew up in an area where people attended church every Sunday. He, however, said he did research on more aspects of everyday life during that time.
