Last week was eventful in showbiz. TheCable Lifestyle examines the top entertainment stories that got tongues wagging in the past seven days.
DAVIDO SIGNEE’S CONTROVERSIAL MUSIC VIDEO
Davido has attracted a chorus of condemnation from many Muslim devotees for using a mosque in the music video of ‘Jaye Lo,’ a song by Logos Olori, one of Davido Music Worldwide’s (DMW) newly signed artistes.
Olori released his debut single on Friday. But a 45-second clip of the new video shared on Davido’s Instagram page has since got tongues wagging.
The controversial scene featured some men dressed as mallams seen dancing in front of a mosque, instead of praying.
Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to Muhammadu Buhari, and Ali Nuhu, a Nollywood actor, were among the critics who condemned the video.
Ahmed said the content is disrespectful and offensive to Muslims while Nuhu argued that the video is “unacceptable in Islam”.
TRINITY GUY RELEASED FROM PRISON
Maruf Abdullahi, the skit maker fondly called Trinity Guy, was released, after spending weeks at the Agodi correctional centre in Ibadan.
In June, the Oyo state police command summoned the skit maker over alleged sexual exploitation of a 10-year-old girl.
A family court sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan then ordered the remand of Trinity Guy.
He was remanded on two-count charges of conspiracy, sexual abuse, and exploitation alongside Isiaka Ahmed and Rofiat — parents of the minor.
On June 11, P. O. Adetuyibi, the magistrate, extended the remand till August 31 for further hearing.
But in a recent post on Twitter, the skit maker said: “I am now a free man”.
“For every person’s life there is always an ups and downs. I thank God and all my fans for being with me throughout this phase and I appreciate everyone’s concern and prayers concerning this phase. God continue to bless you all. I’m now a free man now,” he wrote.
Trinity Guy was reportedly released on bail pending the next court sitting.
BRYMO’S EXPOSE ON SIMI, EYFA SPARKS REACTION
The singer was in the news last week after he recalled he once made sex a requirement for music collaboration with female artistes, especially Simi and Ghana’s Efya.
On Friday, Brymo said he gave out the condition because he wanted to experience what it feels like to make music with a female artiste he is bedding.
Brymo, however, said a part of him wants to feel remorseful about the condition he gave Simi even though he was unaware she was with Adekunle Gold.
Brymo’s tweet however did not sit well with Gold, who warned him not to “disrespect my wife and my family”.
REGINA DANIELS BECOMES SOCIAL SECRETARY OF SENATORS’ WIVES
Last week, Regina Daniels, the Nigerian actress, was appointed as the social secretary of the 10th senators’ wives association of Nigeria (SWAN).
The actress announced the association’s inaugural meeting on Wednesday, hosted by Ekaette Akpabio, the wife of the senate president.
She said the purpose of the meeting was to discuss ways to support the senators in serving Nigerians better.
“It was a meeting specifically about the growth of our country and ways in which we can help our senators / husbands and the First Lady of the federation serve the great people of Nigeria better,” she wrote on Instagram.
“I was also made the social secretary of the forum. I look forward to a great Nigeria.”
AY MAKUN YET AGAIN ADDRESSES FEUD WITH BASKETMOUTH, JULIUS AGWU
The comic actor recently said he will be happy if he dies without reconciling with Basketmouth and Julius Agwu.
“The bros [senior colleagues in the comedy industry] knew [about my beef with Basketmouth] and at some point in time, they had to ask me to slow down,” he said.
“They were like: ‘You are doing too much. You are putting in too much to make this thing work. Friendship is not by force.
“I was believing that ‘No, this can work’. Even in my last stand-up comedy show, I had to go on stage and I did another routine.
“How is my guy? This is my guy. If you see this guy, tell him he is my guy.
“And the following morning, everywhere exploded again. ‘We are not friends. We are not that. We are not this.’
“So, for me now, I am not pushing anything anymore.
“As I am here now as AY, if I have to go to my grave without sitting with any of these guys to say ‘hello,’ ‘hi,’ I will be happy.”
