The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) says Bobrisky, the self-acclaimed crossdresser, is being treated like every other male inmate since “his biological features are the same”.
Last week, the social media celebrity was sentenced to six months in prison by Abimbola Awogboro, a judge of the federal high court in Lagos.
Awogboro, in her verdict, also ruled that the sentence is without the option of a fine.
The judge held that the jail term commences on March 24, the day of her arrest.
Awogboro said the verdict would serve as a deterrent to other persons fond of abusing and mutilating the Nigerian currency.
When the judge asked Bobrisky about her gender, Bobrisky replied that “I am a man”.
Following the conviction, Bobrisky was transferred to Ikoyi custodial centre in Lagos.
According to PUNCH, a top official in the facility said Bobrisky was examined at the point of admission.
“Bobrisky made a public declaration that he was a male and court proceedings are public records. Every inmate brought into a facility during admission is examined,” the prison official said.
“After that, a cell was allocated to him, and he had a certain number of inmates with him. A bed space was also allotted to him. It is just like a boarding house where your housemaster will issue you your personal belongings.”
The source added that Bobrisky has been adhering to the regulations at the prison centre.
Bobrisky is also said to be protected against any form of abuse while serving her term.
“When it is time for class, he attends. When it is time for food, he will go and get his portion. The same goes with prep and light out. He observes all these without preference. He has been going about his business just like other inmates since he was brought in here,” the official added.
“He is not getting any five-star treatment and is not being protected from anybody. He follows the same rules and regulations just like every other inmate. Single cells of isolation cells are to prevent outbreaks of communicable diseases. In a male prison, homosexuality is outlawed and it is a grievous offence. Sodomy or homosexuality, is frowned upon here in the custodial centre. So any inmate that tries to violate him will face the law.”
Bobrisky has always been in the news for controversial reasons.
She has always warned the public to stop referring to her as a man. She also claimed to be Nigeria’s first transgender and once admitted to having severed her genitals.
Bobrisky had in 2020 revealed that she opted for crossdressing to make ends meet after 25 years of being a man.
In September 2021, the social media celebrity also talked about some of the perks she enjoys being a “woman”.
