The Africa Film Academy says it is now accepting submissions from filmmakers for the 17th Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAAs).

The AMAAs, founded in 2005, is an annual event which facilitates development and showcases the social relevance of African film and cinema.

The organiser in a statement said entries for the 2021 edition of the awards can now be submitted from now till July 31.

It added that the deadline for early submissions is scheduled for May 31 while late submissions ends July 31.

The organiser said nominations will be announced on September 30, while the award ceremony will be held in November.

“The Africa Film Academy invites filmmakers to submit their feature, short, animation and documentary works for consideration in nearly 30 film categories of the awards. This submission is opened to only films produced and released between January 2020 and July 31st, 2021 (last day of submission),” the statement read.

“Each completed entry form for 2021 entries must be accompanied by all the supporting materials listed on the submission forms, including the synopsis of the film, the list of credits, marketing stills of the film, filmographies of the directors and producers, copies of the film in 3DVDS or a hard drive plus a compulsory online submission via vimeo/we transfer, proof of the right to submit and active contact details of anticipated nominees.”

The 16th edition of the AMAAs was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the virtual event, “The Milkmaid”, a film by Desmond Ovbiagele, movie producer, carted away four awards, including award for the best film.
