The ‘Ojuelegba’ crooner didn’t give a hint on what the announcement is about, sparking curiosity from his fans and critics alike.

Wizkid has been in the news over his scathing criticism of rap music which he dismissed as “boring” and “dead”.

In an interview, Wizkid stated that he doesn’t listen to rap, suggesting rappers have failed to adapt to change.

“Afrobeats is the new pop. I sold two million copies in America off of one song! Even some American artists don’t have a diamond record. If I’m being honest, I don’t listen to any other genre of music anymore,” he said.

“I don’t listen to rap. That sh*t is boring to me. It’s dead now, it’s tired. These guys do the same sh*t, rap on the same beats and the same flows.”

His comment has attracted a chorus of condemnation from critics and some of his colleagues in the music industry.

In a Twitter post, MI Abaga appeared to have countered Wizkid, saying rap is “still on the rise”.

Abaga, who is also a rapper, also gave a shout-out to his colleagues who he said are “winning”.

Oladips, the fast-rising rapper, took a swipe at Wizkid while asking him if he has ever helped any rapper before.

‘Mr she tell me say’ woke up today and said hip hop is dead… If you’re feeling sleepy baba Bolu, please go back to bed… It’s time to call a spade a spade… because it’s rap music that took people like me to the level that I’m today,” he said.

“You should have asked before making a comment…when last did you f**king help the rappers, hope you can answer…if you don’t have anything motivating to contribute, maybe you should clear your hears with cutton bud because I am really good at rap music…”
