Videos earlier surfaced on social media showing a student of the school being slapped by her colleague.

In the videos, the teenage girl is surrounded by uniformed colleague students while a female among them is dealing her smacks on the face.

The students are then heard making such comments as “Who broke my heart” and “I spoilt her relationship” within the school premises.

The development has generated public furore on social media, with Nigerians demanding that measures be taken to punish the culprit.

In a statement on Tuesday, the school’s management said it has initiated a probe and appointed a dedicated team to conduct a “thorough inquiry” into the matter.

Abraham Ogunkanmbi, the school’s Abuja head, said it will work with the culprits and their families to offer counselling and sanctions.

“Lead British International School, Abuja is deeply concerned about the recent incident of bullying that has come to light. We are taking this matter very seriously,” the statement reads in part.

“Upon learning of the incident, we initiated the process of reaching out to the victim and family to provide support, including access to counselling services to help them cope with the emotional and psychological impact of the incident.

“Additionally, we will be working with the perpetrators and their families, offering counselling and disciplinary measures to address their behaviour which has no place in society.

“We have also immediately initiated an investigation, appointing a dedicated team to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter.

The school caters to day students from crèche to 18 years.

It also has a boarding facility for students from age four and above.
