Melvin Ejiofor, Nigerian rapper better known as Illbliss, has come through with ‘The Hero’s Walk’, a documentary on the Igbo apprenticeship system.
The 30-minute project starts with footage of some historical monuments in the southeast as well as people clad in Igbo traditional attires showcasing the richness of the region’s culture.
This was followed by a revealing conversation between the musician and Nkem Owoh, Nollywood actor, about the origin, prospects, and challenges of the Igbo apprenticeship system.
It also showcases the enterprising spirit of the Igbo people as well as how the apprenticeship system referred to as ‘Imu Afia’ has produced several business heavyweights.
The documentary features interviews with top Igbo entrepreneurs including Innocent Chukwuma, chairman of Innoson group, as well as young people currently undergoing the apprenticeship systems.
In a flurry of tweets, Illblis expressed his excitement featuring in the project alongside Owoh and learning more about the Igbo apprenticeship system.
“So proud to be part of this epic documentary Project. I had an amazing time taking notes from the legend Nkem Owoh Osuofia on the uniqueness of the igbo Apprentice System. We present ‘The Hero Walk’,” he wrote.
He also canvassed for the adoption of the Igbo apprenticeship system in other parts of Nigeria as well as outside the country.
“I think this system needs to be adopted by other cultures and people outside Nigeria,” he added in a separate post.
