The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has initiated the 76th meeting of its national examinations committee (NEC) to decide on cases of malpractice for 2023.
The council disclosed this on Wednesday in a statement via Twitter.
WAEC also assured that the decision reached after the NEC meeting on withheld results will be communicated to the public.
“The 76th Meeting of the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC) to consider & decide on the malpractice/irregularity cases arising from the conduct of WASSCE for School Candidates, 2023 begins today,” it wrote.

In August, WAEC said a total of 1,613,733 candidates sat for this year’s edition of the exam in Nigeria.
Giving a breakdown of the results, it said 1,361,608 candidates representing 84.38 percent got credit and above in a minimum of five subjects with or without English Language or Mathematics.
It also revealed that 1,287,920, representing 79.81 percent of the total candidates, obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects including English Language and Mathematics.
WAEC said the results of 262,803 candidates were, however, withheld due to reports of cases of exam malpractice.
“We have already started something in terms of CBT examination. We have gone far with our planning and all of that, even in the sub-region, the registrar to the council is also doing something,” the council said.
“But this is not as easy as some people will think. This is because we ask ourselves, how do we conduct CBT for practicals and essay papers? We can only readily do that in the case of objective questions.”
Earlier, WAEC appointed Amos Josiah Dangut as the new head of its Nigeria office.
Dangut is to take over from Patrick Areghan, whose tenure ends in October 2023.
